AFL Supports Women in Trades with the Michael D. Hill Scholarship Fund

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – October 27, 2022 | AFL along with Spligitty have created the Michael D. Hill Scholarship Fund for Women in the Trades at the College of Western Idaho (CWI). The scholarship fund is named after dedicated employee Mike Hill, Operations Manager, in honor of his decade of exemplary service to Spligitty, an AFL telecom services company which specialized in fiber optic splicing and cable placement.

The scholarship will be awarded to women in the trades who attend CWI. Funds will be used for tuition, materials and supplies and safety equipment. This location is special to Mike and his family as his daughter recently graduated from CWI’s welding program, and he wants to support other women who have an interest in pursuing non-traditional careers.

“When it came to celebrating Mike and all of his accomplishments with Spligitty and AFL, I can think of nothing better than a scholarship fund that bears his name,” said Seneca Mullins, President of AFL U.S. Services. “A new generation of women will have more access to education thanks to Mike and his family.”

The scholarship will continue for the next five years thanks to Spligitty, AFL and private donations. It will serve as a living legacy of Mike’s commitment to advancing skills of women in the trades.

Last month Mike received the company's “Pillar of Strength Award” in a recent ceremony in Salt Lake City surrounded by his family and coworkers.
