AFL Recognized with Rising Star Award for Most Sustainable Organization from EnergyCAP
AFL today announced that it has received the 2023 Rising Star award for Most Sustainable Organization from EnergyCAP. The Rising Star award recognizes a diverse range of industries with outstanding achievements in energy efficiency and sustainability practices.
In 2023, AFL developed a comprehensive Sustainability Program following a materiality assessment. Key initiatives include a Greenhouse Gas Inventory assessment, a commitment to science-based target initiatives and a partnership with EnergyCAP to track its progress.
“Over the past two and a half years, AFL has embraced and launched its sustainability program, driving alignment between our businesses. We have developed and implemented strategies to achieve our targets,” commented Geoff VanderVeen, Director, Environment and Health Safety. “This recognition from EnergyCAP validates our efforts and commitment to energy reduction and environmental stewardship.”
AFL has set bold targets, including to aim for a 50.4% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from a 2022 baseline by 2032, alongside reducing energy intensity by 10% and waste and water intensity by 5% from 2022 baseline by 2027.
Earlier this year, AFL released its first annual Corporate Responsibility Report. The comprehensive report formalizes AFL’s long-standing commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices.
