AFL VP/General Counsel Appointed to Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education

Spartanburg, SC – Grant Burns, vice president and general counsel for AFL, an international manufacturer of fiber optic cable, equipment and accessories, has been appointed to the South Carolina Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education by SC Governor Henry McMaster. Burns is a Clemson graduate and holds a Juris Doctor from the Washington and Lee University School of Law. At AFL, Burns oversees all legal matters, is also involved in legal matters of several other Fujikura group companies and oversees AFL’s human resources function. Burns’ recent appointment to the SC Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education adds to his already expansive work in several civic and philanthropic organizations in the upstate of South Carolina.

Burns is the board appointee for the 4th Congressional District, which is comprised of Greenville and Spartanburg counties. He has deep roots in both counties and will coordinate with leaders from Greenville Technical College and Spartanburg Community College in his new role. Burns has been appointed for a six-year term on the board.

The SC Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education governs the SC Technical College System. This system is the state’s largest higher education system and works to educate and train South Carolina’s workforce in an accessible and affordable way. They not only work to prepare today’s students for jobs in SC, but they also strive to help the state of South Carolina by increasing the employability of all South Carolinians. The board manages readySC™, which works to meet the needs of companies that are relocating or expanding in South Carolina by preparing South Carolina’s workforce. This is a key component of the system’s mission to promote economic and workforce development in South Carolina.
