AFL Presents $15K Grant to Middle Tyger Community Center
Spartanburg, SC – August 24, 2022 – AFL, an international manufacturer of fiber optic cable, connectivity and accessories, presented a $15,000 grant to the Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC), an organization that provides various family support services and resources that enrich lives and build community engagement. The grant is made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program and supports MTCC’s counseling program and will provide 300 hours of therapy to serve a minimum of 25 clients per month for one year. Counseling services include play therapy for young children as well as age-appropriate therapy for adolescents.
“We are unique in that we offer counseling sessions on a sliding scale based on the number of people in the household and the annual household income,” said Tina Gaudiano, Senior Program Director for MTCC’s Counseling Center. “This is made possible due to local grants and donations, like the one from AFL, which we rely on to serve clients who could otherwise not afford typical counseling fees.”
Statistics indicate that mental health for adolescents is worsening. Gaudiano continued, "Although it is particularly important that youth have access to mental health services, nearly five million young people suffer from serious mental health illnesses that significantly interfere with day-to-day life. However, in any given year, only one in five receives treatment. We want to change that for our community."
Middle Tyger Community Center provides holistic services that empower individuals and families in Spartanburg County and help break the generational poverty cycle through a combination of concrete resources and programs that lead to long-term change. MTCC envisions a vibrant community where children play, people work, and families thrive.
