AFL Presents $14,000 to United Way Organizations in the Northeast
Belmont, NH and Spartanburg, SC – AFL’s Test & Inspection Division launched its annual United Way campaign with a resulting $14,000 donation--$9,000 to Granite United Way and $5,000 to United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. The donations were made possible by AFL associates in Belmont, New Hampshire and Lowell, Massachusetts as well as AFL’s Community Outreach Program which supplemented donations.“This year’s campaign was a huge success and we really owe it to our associates who stepped up to support our communities financially,” commented Seán Adam, general manager for AFL’s Test & Inspection Division. “The need is real and sometimes we don’t see it as we go about our day-to-day lives. But this campaign gives us an opportunity to learn about United Way, the surrounding agencies and the sheer number of lives we can impact.”
The theme for this year’s United Way campaign was “Be Someone’s Hero.” The one-week campaign started with a super-hero lunch presentation by Amanda Ruggles of Granite United Way who discussed their programs and focus areas. Two representatives from New Beginnings Without Violence & Abuse talked about their organization, how they serve the community and how United Way supports their efforts.
In their fifth year of spearheading a United Way campaign, this marks the largest increase with nearly 100 percent of associates donating. Associate giving increased by 44 percent and overall impact increased by 56 percent.
