AFL Associates Volunteer, Provide Grant to Harvest Hope in Greenville
Spartanburg, SC – A team of volunteers from AFL, an international manufacturer of fiber optic cable and accessories, spent an afternoon with Harvest Hope, an organization that provides fresh and non-perishable food to families in need. Volunteers shopped for clients, provided quality control, and then sorted and boxed food received for local nonprofits in the area. The volunteer effort is called an ACT (AFL Community Team) Project and encourages teams of volunteers to serve in their community.During the three hour volunteer project, associates sorted an estimated 12,000 pounds of food, and helped Harvest Hope prepare food in the pantry to be given out the following day. At the end of the project, the volunteers presented a $3,000 grant to Harvest Hope. Made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program, the grant will provide 15,000 meals to people in need.
“There’s a big difference between hearing about an organization and knowing what they do, and going to an organization to volunteer with them and be a part of the solution,” commented Steve Ferguson, vice president of sales and marketing for AFL. “We learned so much about the need in our area and were amazed at the impact we made in a short amount of time.”
Harvest Hope serves more than 2 million individuals within a 20 county service area over the course of one year, and they partner with nearly 500 member nonprofit agencies to distribute food. Harvest Hope is a partner with Feeding America, the largest charitable hunger relief organization in the United States.
AFL has an extensive Community Outreach Program that provides grants, sponsorships, associate engagement projects, disaster relief and more. For additional information on AFL and its community initiatives, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
