Product Spotlight: Fujikura 90S+ Fusion Splicer

As a new generation of splicer technicians enters the workforce, Fujikura continues to innovate and find new ways to simplify their day-to-day operations. Thus, Fujikura introduced the 90S+ core alignment fusion splicer as a solution to issues splicing technicians commonly face in the field which lead to poor splice loss.

The 90S+ offers all the same great features of its 90S predecessor but adds a key, new attribute: Active Fusion Control (AFC). This new feature reduces splice loss even for poorly cleaved fibers. “Active Fusion Control adds to the package of passive benefits the 90S+ provides,” states Lucas Mays, associate product line manager for AFL’s Fusion Splicing Systems. “Passive meaning, you don’t do anything different to benefit.”

When Active Fusion Control is coupled with Active Blade Management (ABM) between the CT50 cleaver and 90S+, these new technologies reduce the possibility of poor splice installations or repairs, therefore decreasing the need for splicing rework. As a result, the 90S+ enables quick, quality fiber installations and repairs.

This splicer is also extremely versatile. It can be used in a variety of field splicing applications such as bend-insensitive fibers in drop cables, long-haul terrestrial and submarine LEAF fibers, loose buffer fiber, splice-on connectors and more. Plus, its speed and accuracy make it a popular option in environments where high output, tight packaging and low loss requirements are necessary.

According to Mays, this isn’t the end of Fujikura innovation. “You never know what Fujikura might do next,” he continues. “Pleasing customers is a top priority for them and AFL, so if a need is made known, we’ll rise to meet it. I guarantee we’ll see a new generation of field splicer in the coming years. Fujikura’s track record of innovation isn’t slowing down.”
