On completion of the survey, the following findings and cost differences were identified:
a) ADSS installation would require a replacement of 33% of poles due to their condition and risk of collapsing, should the ADSS be installed.
b) The cost of poles replacement drags in the cost of re‐conductorising of lines, installation of new hardware, insulators and so on.
c) AccessWrap installation would require a replacement of 5% of poles due to their condition and risk of collapsing, which could occur
during the installation.
d) The total installation time of ADSS, including the electric infrastructure work was estimated for 65 days.
e) The total installation time of AccessWrap, including the electric infrastructure work was estimated for 35 days.
f) The total cost difference and saving of application of AccessWrap for this particular project was 46% over the initially considered ADSS option.
RESULTS
This cost study is not to disqualify the ADSS as a product range to be used, but to highlight the smart choice of alternative, available solution
AFL has in their portfolio.
In this instance – AccessWrap proved to be a more cost effective solution to look on in providing a point-to-point (P2P) fibre optic link, giving
much faster system installation time, reducing the number of land owners to negotiate with in terms of civil work access and wayleaves, and
saving a large proportion of money.
