AccessWrap to ADSS Cost Study—Central Europe
INTRODUCTION
A DNO located in Poland approached AFL with request for fibre optic solution costing, with initial concept of installation of 24F All-Dielectric
Self-Supporting (ADSS) on their medium voltage power line.
The initial indications of the line condition looked promising to allow the ADSS to be installed, however, should there be any electrical infrastructure
problems, customer had decided to also look on alternative solution – AccessWrap, and the total cost of ownership (fully installed solution cost)
between the two technologies.
TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW
ADSS—All-Dielectric Self-Supporting
Technology very well‐known and very popular for adding the fibre in to the existing overhead
infrastructure.
The principals of installation are simple and are delivered via the suspension of the ADSS on
the electrical poles via the use of dedicated hardware.
Installation usually is split in to two phases: make ready (preparation of hardware on electric
poles) and cable install.
Process requires dedicated tensioning equipment and involves a more than one visit at each
pole plus application of tension, allowing correct cable sagging, to the poles.

Typical ADSS cable weight = 90‐150 kg/km
Typical installation tension = 1.7-1.9 kN
