[Webinar] Connecting Every Corner - Enabling the Grid
The electric grid stands at an inflection point. Utilities face a host of challenges, including an aging infrastructure, impacts of climate-change, accelerated load growth and supporting decarbonization goals. Over the next decade the industry is expected to see 91GW of peak demand growth, the potential retirement of over 100GW of generation, and a transmission line interconnect queue, which currently stands at over 2TW.
To meet this challenge effectively, utilities, regulation and the grid itself must fundamentally change. Utilities will need to make use of advanced grid technologies, ones which enable greater capacity from existing infrastructure and rights-of-way, while providing real-time grid-state sense and control to deliver greater reliability, resiliency and capacity. As stated in the Department of Energy report "Pathways to Commercial Liftoff: Innovative Grid Deployment", the communication infrastructure is a foundational component to achieving the greater capacity and value within the existing grid required.
In this December 2024 webinar, produced in partnership with T&D World, AFL's Seán Adam, Vice President of Market Strategy and Innovation, discusses the advancements and innovations being made in fiber optic-based solutions to enable greater levels of asset and right-of-way reuse by utilities.
