Core Alignment for Large Mode Area Fibers

In this white paper, Core Alignment for Large Mode Area (LMA) Fibers, AFL fusion splicing experts, Wenxin Zheng and Doug Duke, studied the core alignment method for fusion splicing of LMA fiber that is essential for the fiber laser manufacturing process. New functions and algorithms that enable core alignment of LMA was developed and implemented in commercially available fusion splicers, such as the FSM-100 series.

This paper explains the different algorithms for the LMA fiber core alignment, as well as a discussion of the different verification methods of core offset at the splice point for different LMA fiber types.
