[Blog] Part 2: Advancing Broadband Access through Global FTTH Installations

In our previous blog post, we introduced the exciting partnership between AFL and CommScope. This collaboration aligns with the U.S. government's Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program and the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) – two initiatives aimed at expanding broadband access while ensuring that infrastructure projects adhere to domestic manufacturing standards.

AFL’s upcoming fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) hardened connectivity solution, powered by Prodigy® under license from CommScope, is positioned to support these federal goals by providing advanced technology that streamlines FTTH deployments.

“As a leader in fiber optic solutions, we recognize the clear advantage in interoperability and ease-of-use that Prodigy offers,” said Marc Bolick, AFL’s President of Product Solutions. “We’re looking forward to providing these licensed solutions to our customers in support of tomorrow’s fiber networks.”

Designed to address the growing needs of global FTTH installations, the Prodigy line’s revolutionary convertor technology allows it to provide seamless backwards compatibility with embedded hardened connectivity solutions as well as enhanced density, transforming the FTTH landscape.

These connectors deliver faster, simpler installations as they are compatible with existing legacy fiber networks, making it easier to integrate new technology without overhauling current systems. They also provide a SAFER solution – one that is sustainable, accessible, flexible, expandable and reliable:

  • Sustainability is enhanced by the reduction of materials used in construction, and the fact that more compact products mean less transportation costs and impacts.
  • Accessibility is enhanced by Prodigy’s® easy, error-proof design, including a self-locking feature, ensuring that technicians can make a good connection every time.
  • Flexibility is enhanced by having a backwards-compatible, plug-and-play product that supports multiple network designs – such as centralized split, distributed split and tap architectures.
  • Expandability is enhanced by making moves/adds/changes easy with plug-and-play and allowing for more network and connection capacity to fit in the same footprint.
  • Reliability is ensured by AFL’s quality design and manufacturing procedures, honed over 40 years of building fiber optic products that our customers know they can count on.

Together, this partnership is driving the future of FTTH deployments and helping to bring broadband to everyone. This agreement represents a significant step in AFL's commitment to supporting the BABA provisions, ensuring eligibility for BEAD funding.
