OPGW and OHGW Bonding Assembly Selection

Bonding assemblies are used in combination with AFL dead end and suspension clamps to provide a path to ground from the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) or Overhead Ground Wire (OHGW) to the support structure. AFL recommends two bonding assemblies for OPGW and OHGW grounding, the Aluminum Bonding Wire series and Tin Plated Copper Flexible Braided Bonding Strap. Both assemblies are available in a variety of lengths, terminal bend angles, and lug sizes. This white paper explores selecting the best bonding assembly configuration when taking into account these factors, proximity from the termination or suspension hardware to the support structure, terrain and wind conditions, and tower hardware requirements.
